What if the Democratic nominee for president waged an historic campaign for evangelical votes, the Republican nominee was surprisingly tone deaf to evangelical political concerns, a pile of polls showed evangelicals were less beholden to Republicans and their issues than they were at any point in the Bush administration–and evangelicals still supported the Republican nominee by huge margins in November. Spiritual Politics’ Mark Silk points to a new Rasmussen poll suggesting such an eventuality:

Obama leads 59% to 35% among those who rarely, never, or occasionally attend Church or other religious services. Among those who attend services at least a couple of times a month, McCain leads 56% to 37%. McCain leads 69% to 28% among Evangelical Christians.

What would happen to all the Democrats’ new evangelical outreach programs if such a lopsided result comes to pass?
