Christmas Faith is Strengthened through Christmas Evidence. The Bible offers The Bible Offers evidence to Strengthen our Confidence in Christ’s claims, birth, and final work. Hundreds of years prior to His arrival, prophets laid out specific details of the Messiah’s birth. Studying these prophetic predictions strengthens our confidence in God, His power, His wisdom, and His timeless plan.
Doubts Are Natural:
- Do you ever have moments where you wonder… “Is this all really true? Am I really sure that I
haven’t placed my eternal destiny into a story about a talking snake and a magical Resurrection?
- Do you ever hear all the theories from different religions and philosophies and wonder if Jesus is
really… the ONLY way to God? With the pressure of multi-culturalism and relativism in our
culture… Isn’t only natural to at least wonder?
- As you approach the holidays, it’s easy to see real life pain and allow doubt to creep into your
life: Your son and daughter-in-law are struggling with infertility, your mom is dying… Your
grandfather passed away this past year… You got a medical report, Audit notice, or pink slip…
just in time for the Holidays…. Whatever the “thing” was or is, it has you doubting God’s love.
God’s presence. And God’s plan.
Michael Jordan is a friend who has been attending our church for about a year. He would call himself a skeptic or maybe an explorer. I interviewed him on stage last January. He shared his doubts about faith and God stem from the hypocrisy of church people over the years. However, he has been coming, listening, watching. He even decided to go on our Belize mission trip last year and is planning to go again this year. We were at a lunch a few weeks ago and he shared some interesting “coincidence” that have him thinking about his doubts. As a boat lover who sold high end racing boats for years, it was a big deal for him to go to Belize and miss the annual boat show he attended faithfully for 20 years, but he went. As a medical supply company he often has supplies in his bag. He had several tools in his bag used to check a patient’s blood. He pulled them all out of the bag. He even turned the bag upside down to dump them out. He filled his bag with toys and candy for the kids. As they arrive at the hospital in Belize. Michael realized that the hospital needed some Oxidizers… The very thing he dumped out of his bag a week earlier. He reached into his bag to get a toy and sure enough… There was one medical tool in the bag. He turned to me and said, “Chad, I don’t have an explanation for this… But I imagine you do. What I know FOR SURE, is that I emptied and dumped everything out of that bag that was medical.” We laughed as he is beginning to see God draw Him near despite his doubts. Michael is learning evidence for his faith. “We know doubts are a part of life for all of us.
Doubts Are Natural:
God comes to us in our doubts and doesn’t say, “I can’t believe you feel that way.” He doesn’t say, “Just believe… Faith is the absence of facts.” No, No, No. God comes to us and welcome our honest doubts.
God Offers Evidence to Strengthen Our Faith When it is Weak.
Christmas Faith is Strengthened through Christmas Evidence.
God comes to Mary through an Angel in Luke 2 and says something that is hard to believe.
30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
Now, that’s a lot to believe.
1) Don’t be Afraid when you are talking to an Angel.
2) “I” have found favor with God.
3) I will be pregnant though I am a virgin.
4) My son will be the great predicted Messiah who will have an eternal kingdom.
Just a few small things to digest here. Mary doubts…she wonders…she tells God out loud of her doubts… and concerns…
34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
Notice how the Angel doesn’t rebuke her question, but instead, offers her CHRISTMAS evidence to strengthen her Christmas Faith.
35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing is impossible.”
The Angel says to her. Here’s some evidence 1) The Holy Spirit will come upon you. 2) God will do a miraculous work with your relative Elizabeth letting her have a child in old age… Go check out these facts. See if she is six months pregnant… And then you will know… Your faith will be strengthened by the evidence to know, “With God, Nothing is Impossible…”
Christmas Evidence Strengthened Mary’s Christmas Faith.
Every Christian Can Strengthen Their Christmas Faith By Examining God’s Epoxy Evidence.
We’ll look at Two Aspects of God’s Epoxy Evidence:
1) The Epoxy God Has Two Parts.
2) The Epoxy God has a Unique Start.
Jesus was sent to GLUE US BACK TO GOD.
EPOXY EVIDENCE #1: GOD HAS TWO PARTS
Hundreds of years earlier, a prophet named Isaiah gave evidence of God’s Earthly visit, that is in modern times, a lot like Epoxy. What is an Epoxy? If you’ve ever used Epoxy Glue, it comes in a tube, or two tubes that must be mixed together. One part is a hardener. The other part is a resin. When you go to glue something… You must equally mix both parts. The resin by itself will not work. The hardener by itself will not work. But when you mix them both together, you get an unbreakable bond. Isaiah gives Christmas Evidence of an Epoxy God which has two parts. He will be a child that is born… and a Song that is given.
6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Look at all this evidence. A human child will be born… But at the same time, there will be a son… Given. The Child will be a “him” and mortal child born to the world, but he will be “everlasting,” “God” and have the whole government of God on His shoulders. If you were reading this in Isaiah’s time, it would be hard to imagine that this is even possible. An Epoxy Messiah composed of the resin of a human boy child, who is actually mixed with the “hardened” of the Mighty, Everlasting God. But God was giving us Evidence years in Advance to Strengthen Our Christmas Faith. The First Evidence is: THE EPOXY GOD WILL HAVE TWO PARTS. SO, we pick up our story in Matthew 1.
Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
Mary and Joseph were both Jewish and knew the Prediction of the prophet Isaiah. But who would’ve thought it would happen to them? The incarnation happened as follows. The word incarnate means to “put on flesh.” Two Parts: God the Holy spirit is one part. Mary’s unborn Child… The second part. Here, we see God’s plan unfolding in a simple explanation of an impossible prediction. Why does this doctrine matter? Why does the Epoxy God need to 100% God and 100% ma? He is the epoxy God, a perfect mixture of god the hardener and human the resin. The incarnation shows God was willing to identify with us as a human. God is willing to come to us as a human. But only God could pay for sin for committed against himself. If Jesus wasn’t God, He wasn’t qualified to do His job. Second, He is a child, fully human, making Him able to be a substitutionary atonement. He must be human to “substitute” for humans. He must be God to “make atonement for us to God. God must atone or make right the wrong between us and Him. Since we couldn’t atone ourselves… Meaning our good works would never make up, or repair the problem of our bad works. God Himself could repair out injury.
Jesus alone can glue us back to God. If You take away His resin (His Humanness), He can’t stick to us. If you take away the hardener, we can’t stick to God.
HOW DOES THIS CHRISTMAS EVIDENCE STRENGTHEN OUR CHRISTMAS FAITH?
We learn The Epoxy God Glues Us Back to Him.
We can confidently know Jesus is unique. His coming was predicted. He is who He says He was. The Word is True. Jesus is real. God Can Glue Us Back to Him. I can have peace with God. I Can Know That My payment is atoned by God. I can know confidently that my entrance into Heaven is secured by His work. If God Glues Us Back to Him then there are many implications.
We learn that Life Begins in the Womb. God says in Isaiah and here in Matthew that this is a child in the womb, not a fetus. This is an unborn child. Life begins at conception. Life is precious and sacred.
