Nine year-old Shakia Mason was at home Monday night when a fire broke out in her family’s Florida home. While her mother and grandmother attempted to put the fire out, she grabbed her baby sister and moved her other siblings and cousin out of the house.
“I grabbed the baby and I grabbed the other kids and I got them out the house…The important part was getting my brother and my sisters and cousin out,” Shakia said.
The blaze then strengthened, forcing the adults to leave. Shakia’s mother was overjoyed to find her children and relatives already waiting for her as she ran out of the smoke filled house.
