Why should Victor Perez get involved? After all, he didn’t know any of the people in the news story. He didn’t know the family of a little girl who had been kidnapped off of the street. He’d never met the child. Why should he care?
After all, Perez is an unskilled laborer. He’s a day worker — who most recently had been picking grapes to support his family. However, it was raining and he couldn’t work when he was watching the news about an 8-year-old named Elisa. He heard officials say they had issued an Amber Alert — since in cases such as this, the kidnapper usually kills his victim within 24 hours. Perez watched the TV news account — including a surveillance video showing a battered pickup truck that police believed was used in the abduction.
Then Perez noticed a pickup parked outside near his home. He watched it. He grew suspicious.
But why should he get involved?
As you can see from this video, he thanks God that he did. So do police.
So does the family of an 8-year-old girl.
