Now here’s a festival that would be fun to visit, if you have a sleigh and eight reindeer, that is.
The 3rd Annual North Pole Contemporary Christian Music Festival will take place tomorrow, Saturday July 19, from 2 pm to 8 pm at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in North Pole, near Fairbanks, Alaska.
Living Water, Ben, 3 Days Notice, the New Hope Contemporary Band and the VBS Youth Group at Lord of Life Lutheran will perform. There will also be special family games and prizes. The event will be held rain or shine.
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted, with proceeds going to the North Pole Food Pantry.
Imagine, for just a moment, what it might be like to plan a contemporary Christian music festival in North Pole, Alaska. The temperature, as listed right now on the church’s website, is 48 degrees at noon on Friday, July 17.
Compare that to Rapid City, South Dakota, where the Hills Alive festival is taking place this weekend as well. It’s 68 there. (It’s 91 in Rochester, New York, where the only music festivites taking place this weekend will be on my CD player.)
The festival in Alaska plays host to some local and regional bands. The festival in South Dakota has headliners like Switchfoot and tobyMac, bands that probably don’t make it to Fairbanks that often.
My guess is that if you want to have a Christian music festival in Alaksa, you need to have a sense of humor and a spirit that rejoices in fellowship with other Christians, rather than celebrities, merchandise tents and hip music trends.
Which means that in the whole summer music festival scene, this might be the best Christian music festival going.
If you’re going to the festival in North Pole, Alaska, please write to me and tell me all about it. I’d love to see pics and to hear how you celebrate!
