Leeland.jpgThe Associated Press reports that Hurricane Ike caused devastating damage to the Celebration of Life Church in the Houston suburb of Baytown, Texas, home church to brothers Jack and Leeland Mooring of Christian rock worship band Leeland.
Celebration of Life Church was founded six and a half years ago by Todd & Cyndy Mooring, parents to Jack and Leeland.
Leeland broke onto the music scene two years ago with their debut album, Sound of Melodies, which captured numerous 2007 Dove nominations as well as a 2007 Grammy nomination Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. The band released their sophomore recording, Opposite Way, this past February.
On their blog, the band writes:

Somehow, the homes of all of us in Leeland are completely fine except for Mike’s place. The ceiling caved in, and he’s going to have to find another place to live. Our church sustained significant damage. There is standing water in the sanctuary. The roof/ceiling leaked tremendously and lots of ceiling tiles caved in. We will be unable to have services at the church building for weeks and the building will need major repairs. We just found out today that the damage to the roof is so bad that the buliding could possibly be condemned.

On Sunday morning the church will resume services in the parking lot, and then begin passing out supplies to their neighborhood.
