Gospel duo Mary Mary performed at the White House last night at an event honoring Stevie Wonder. Wonder was awarded the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. The show will air tonight on PBS.
The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song is named in honor of the legendary George and Ira Gershwin and recognizes the profound and positive effect of popular music on the world’s culture. The prize is given annually to a composer or performer whose lifetime contributions exemplify the standard of excellence associated with the Gershwins. The first Gershwin Prize was awarded to Paul Simon in May 2007.
Tony Bennett, Martina McBride, Will.i.am, and Diana Krall were among the other artists performing at the event. The event will air tonight on your local PBS station. Check your local listings for more information.
It’s been a great year so far for the sister duo, Mary Mary. They’re fresh off a Grammy win, an NAACP Image award win, and Dove nominations. You can learn more about Mary Mary on their website, www.mary-mary.com.
