The Jonas Brothers franchise – which already includes music, a 3D movie, t-shirts and assorted other must-have tween products – will now include a new clothing line for girls, thanks to Disney Consumer Products.
Set for this year’s back to school season, the fashions will be called Jonas and based loosely on the characters and fashion in the trio’s new Disney Channel TV show, “Jonas.”
The irony, of course, is that the Jonas Brothers have nothing to do with the new fashion line, since it’s all based on the ficticious brothers in show. Not that that would matter. The boys are pretty much just a marketable commodity these days; it’s a wonder anyone in the industry ever remembers they’re actually living, breathing young men and not just money making machines.
The clothes will be available at retailers like Sears, Walmart, KMart and JC Penney, and, according to Pamela Lifford, executive vice president, Global Fashion & Home, Disney Consumer Products, “As an added element, within each of the retailers we are offering up differentiation, so that each store has exclusive product on their floors.”
Translation: they’ll make more money by creating a frenzy with tweens who just have to have every single Jonas product available.
Is there anything else Disney can slap a Jonas Brothers picture on? How about a Ford Fusion Jonas Brothers edition? If “American Idol” can do it, why not Disney?

I don't get that station but I checked out the full episode on the South Park website. (You can check out a clip above, but just be warned: there's some strong language and cursing by none other than Mickey Mouse.)
I managed to get through the raunchy language and sex jokes in this episode, and let me tell you, the parody was right on the money: Using purity to sell sex to girls, and parents buying into it faster than the dollars can be printed. I think they also nailed the commercialization of the Jonas Brothers. I'd imagine that those guys sometimes feel like nothing more than a musical ATM for the Disney corporation. They open their mouths, and money falls out.
I would never recommend that you watch a show filled with foul language and elementary school aged kids talking about sex, but it really is an interesting parody of the Jonas Brothers, with some commentary on Christian consumerism.
