Welcome to the new feature on the Gospel Soundcheck blog, Cooking With Christian Music! While I was at GMA this past April, I got to talking to a couple of artists about recipes and cooking, and thought it would be fun to offer my readers something a little different. So every week I’ll share a new recipe from an artist, publicist, manager, booking agent, radio promoter or other Christian music professional. (And if you’re involved in Christian music and would like to share a recipe, just drop me an email at joanne@joannebrokaw.com!)
So for our debut recipe, here’s indie artist Mariah Secrest’s recipe for Peanut-Butter Banana Protein Smoothie:

Peanut-Butter Banana Protein Smoothie
from Mariah Secrest
MariahSecrest.jpgBeing an indie musician is really several jobs in one, which means when I’m not out playing shows I’m on the computer doing the business side of things. Not nearly as fun, but it has to happen. I’m a vegetarian health nut who has little time to spare in between booking, marketing, practicing, performing, etc. This healthy protein smoothie I concocted is a great way to down some fruit and protein in a pinch, which I usually end up sipping at my laptop so I can keep working. 😉
Peanut-Butter Banana Protein Smoothie
1 frozen banana, cut into pieces
2 T. natural peanut-butter
12 oz. vanilla soy-milk
1/3 cup plain or vanilla yogurt
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. wheat germ
Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Tastes great even without the wheat germ or yogurt, if you don’t have any on hand. For the real smoothie addict, Hamilton Beach makes single-serving blenders which come with a travel-lid, so you can grab it on your way out the door and keep it in your cupholder in the car.
