Today, we have a devotional from singer and speaker Shannon Perry on the reading from Psalm 7.
Perry is the host of the “If The Shoe Fits” women’s conferences, which combine her teaching prowess with her musical talent.
Her new music CD,The Real Thing (produced by Lifeway writer/producer Paul Marino), features songs specifically written to fit in with the theme of the conferences. Perry wrote the bulk of the original presentation in hospital waiting rooms while her husband was undergoing cancer treatment.

January 13, 2010-Devotional Reading

Psalm 7:6-8-“…I’m ready, confident in your verdict: innocent.”
“God is our vindicator, He will repay.” I have stood before countless audiences and reminded them of this promise, only to stand before God and forget it myself.
When the intention of my heart has been pure, yet I am grossly misunderstood by another, everything in my human nature rises up to explain and justify my behavior. “Don’t they know me?” “How could they think I would do such a thing?” Questions, worry and fear begin to come in like a flood, and before I know it, it becomes my mission to “set the record straight.” I begin to “do the very things I do not want to do.” I know how Paul must have felt. After all, keeping my mouth closed when I am falsely accused would be another recorded miracle if I had lived during Bible times.
Phillipians 2:7 reminds us that Jesus made Himself of no reputation. He believed that His Father would care for Him in every situation. Even to the point of death, Jesus trusted that God would vindicate Him against the actions of His enemies. There is certainly no better example of this vindication than when Jesus arose from the grave. In this one setting of time, Jesus was not only vindicated, but we were given free right to trust that God would vindicate us through the power of His Son.
In Psalm 7:6-8, David reminds us that God is not only capable, but promises that He will handle the enemies of our soul when we turn them over to Him. He does not need our help, He only needs our faith. We have a loving Father who knows and cares about each time we are wronged, and promises to be more than fair to us in the courtroom of life when we allow Him to be the judge.
We can rest in the promise of verse 8 when our heart is pure before Him-“I’m ready, confident in your verdict: innocent.”

Shannon Perry earned her Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in counseling and taught in the public school system for over fourteen years before entering into full-time ministry. She has previously-released music projects with both Daywind and Benson Records, which garnered radio airplay on the national Christian charts, and has performed with the Houston Symphony and has even appeared at Carnegie Hall. She has been a featured soloist at the J&J Music Conferences in Houston, Texas, and led praise and worship at numerous women’s conferences and for the national Lifeway conferences held annually in New Mexico and North Carolina.
