The colors of nature
                                        The colors of nature

There are many opportunities for magic and intimacy with your partner.  In the mornings, my wife and I usually share a cup of tea together as we look out our bedroom window into our beautiful backyard filled with lavender, roses, jasmine, butterfly bushes and the multicolor of nature.  We have many types of birds, including many hummingbirds and butterflies that come to visit.  This morning, my wife noticed a beautiful yellow and black oriole on one of the shrubs as it was getting ready to ease into our birdbath to bathe.

We stood near our window without moving, watching this special moment, as our oriole is a bit nervous and scares easily.  Only when it feels safe will it go to the birdbath and enter the water to wash itself and play.  To our delight, it flew down to the side of the birdbath and made sure the coast was clear.  It entered the water and splashed about and then shook it feathers after a satisfying bath.

In this moment, Denise and I were one, like little kids immersed in the wonders of nature.  It was magic, we were so close as we shared this intimate experience.  Time stopped.  It filled our hearts with joy and everything else faded away as we watched this oriole make use of our birdbath.  After all, this is why we have it and keep the water fresh and clean.  To give these beautiful birds a safe place to drink, wash off and play and we have so much joy watching.

This experience only lasted for a few minutes, but the power of it, the fullness of it was intense.  It made my day.  It was one of life’s magic moments 0f intimacy.  It was actually a date that Denise and I shared.  No, it wasn’t dinner and a show or a specially planned date, but it was a date.  In our lives, these are the types of moments that create a special intimacy for us.  We could be sitting holding each others hand, watching the ocean, having a meal or watching the birds or butterflies in our back yard.  Life gives you many opportunities for closeness and intimacy if you are open and aware.
