Last April my wife went away for a week to visit her parents in Arizona. I came home that afternoon to find two ducks had come in by going under the front gate and were hanging out between our garage and front door. They next thing I knew I was giving them water and food.
The male and female duck came by almost every day for a few weeks and I named them Grace and Galahad. Grace must have given birth to her baby ducks, as only Galahad returned. Galahad continued to visit every day until the end of August. He often stopped by three to five times a day. We loved having him visit and feel so welcome and free.
Often, Galahad would hang out in front of our gate on the blacktop in the driveway. I sensed he felt safe here and at the same time it was as if he was protecting me and our home. It was a special treat to have Galahad visit and spend time. When he ate, sometimes Galahad would let me sit near by on the front step and share the meal and time. Ducks are incredibly colorful and beautiful. They are iridescent.
My wife, Denise is an animal lover and told me how special this is for these two ducks to trust me during mating season. Denise suggested I look up ducks in her book Animal Speak, The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great & Small by Ted Andrews.
“KEYNOTE: Emotional Comfort and Protection. Water is necessary for all life on earth. Nothing can live without it. Ducks can remind us to drink of the waters of life as well as to nurture our own emotional natures. Ducks have a great ability to show affection and they are very community oriented. They will also return to wherever they feel safe and comfortable. Ducks can sometimes remind us to return to those parts of ourself or those activities that we feel safe and comfortable in as well.”
It was a time of cleansing as I dove deeply into the waters of my life and family to find forgiveness, freedom and transcendence. During this powerful time, Galahad and Grace cheered me on. I was thankful and it was a unique experience. I wondered if I would see Grace and Galahad again.
Spring came early this year and few weeks ago, more ducks and geese appeared at the lake nearby. Sure enough, Galahad came waddling up our front walkway. It was like old times. Galahad has a unique way of checking out the scene as he slowly waddles and uses his neck to look around corners and objects. Nature is brilliant and fascinating and Galahad is so cute!
The universe sends us special signals, friends, guides and angels on our path. The key is to acknowledge the moment and learn the lesson.
“May you be blessed with the divine plan of your life, under grace and in perfect ways.”
