natasharichardsonpic.jpgAfter enormous speculation, last night representative’s for Natasha Richardson’s husband, actor Liam Neeson, broke the news that seemed inevitable: Richardson passed away in a New York hospital from injuries related to a fall at a ski resort in Canada.
Though the announcement gave few details and did not clarify if–as had been reported by some media outlets–she was brain dead as the result of head trauma, the news is still nonetheless shocking and unsettling. Her accident certainly demonstrates the fragility of life and stirs questions and doubts in even the most devoutly religious among us.
Richardson seemed to be a vibrate, energetic woman who successfully balanced motherhood and career while working tirelessly for charities like AMFAR as well. It always seemed to me that Richardson and Neeson were one of the few Hollywood success stories as they have quietly lived their lives with their two sons out of the limelight for the most part.

Many questions about this tragedy remain unanswered, but in light of what seems to be a senseless loss, my prayer is that Neeson will find some solace in his Catholic faith during this painful time. Neeson has occasionally spoken of his Catholic roots. In one interview, he spoke of acting as a “form of prayer” and recently recorded a CD called “The Way of the Cross.” He was also featured in a book about actors and religion entitled “Working on the Inside: The Spiritual Life Through The Eyes Of Actors.”
