Earlier this year, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that The Simpsons were taking a trip to Israel.. At the time, Simpsons creator Matt Groening joked that a situation could arise where if united by anger at Homer, Muslims, Jews and Christians could all work together. Now the news is that the Simpsons’ plans are to tour the Holy Land under the expert guiding of Sacha Baron Cohen.
Last seen offending everyone (including some residents of Jerusalem) in Bruno, Baron Cohen will reportedly be playing an Israeli tour guide, says exec producer Al Jean. Notes Jean:
“He’s trying to get Marge to give him good grades on the comment card, and she goes, ‘You people are pushy,’ and he goes, ‘What do you mean, you people? You try having Syria for a neighbor! What do you have — Canada?'” (Meanwhile, Homer gets Jerusalem Syndrome and believes that he is the messiah.)
We love it. And if you’d like to mark your calendars, the episode is supposed to air on Palm Sunday: March 28, 2010. It would be a sacrilege to miss it.
