Because Stephenie Meyer is really nice (and I suppose, because she is really, really rich, too), she has made her new little book, “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella” available for free download from her website! It just went up yesterday, June 7th, conveniently timed to gear fans up for the June 30th movie release of “Eclipse.” To access it, either visit Ms. Meyer at her homepage, or go straight to:
Breetanner.com
It’s kind of cool actually: when you go to the site, “Bree Tanner” automatically shows up as an ebook and you can click page, by page, the moment you arrive. You can also buy it in bookstores of course, if you must own a copy to put up on the shelf with your other Twilight novels.
This isn’t the first time Stephenie Meyer made a book available for free on her site–fans certainly won’t forget Meyer’s heartbroken response to someone putting up her unfinished, uncorrected, partial “Midnight Sun” manuscript online without her permission. Meyer decided to try to take back control by putting up the unfinished story herself at her website.
A huge debate ensued about whether or not to read “Midnight Sun” because of the unfortunate circumstances of its availability–I still have yet to read it and have no plans to do to so. It still makes me ill that someone would do this to an author.
Happily, Meyer fans have no ethical quandary about Bree Tanner! Though, like I said before when the book was first announced I have no plans to read it–simply because for some reason I have no interest in “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner” at all.
Do you? If you read it, please tell us what you think.
