The Muppets have had a rocky decade and a half. Their films, few and far between, have either failed critically (The Muppet’s Wizard of Oz) or failed commercially (Elmo in Grouchland which, despite being utterly charming, tanked in theaters). But hopefully come November everything will be right in the Muppet world and Jim Henson can roll back over in his grave to a more comfortable position.
The new film, the first theatrical release in 11 years, is aptly titled The Muppets and it appears to be a true return to form. From the sneaky beginning of the marketing campaign (they crafted a fake movie called Green With Envy, and half-way through the first trailer they sprung Kermit and Co. on pleasantly startled viewers) to the current trailer (which you can watch below), they’re hitting all the right notes.
I’m ready for the magnificent Muppets to reclaim the charm and universal appeal that they’ve had in the past. Are you guys looking forward to this one as well?
