https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97m0soGP1oUAfter the success of NBC’s “The Sounds of Music Live!” and “Peter Pan Live!”, the network is excited to debut it’s third holiday musical “The Wiz Live!” on December 3rd at 8 p.m. EST. The three hour television production is the modern retelling of the Broadway musical that featured Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.

The NBC cast lineup: Queen Latifah (the Wiz), Mary J. Blige (Evillene), David Alan Grier (Cowardly Lion), Ne-Yo (Tin Man), Elijah Kelley (Scarecrow), Amber Riley (Good Witch of the North), Stephanie Mills (Auntie Em), Uzo Aduba (Glinda the Good), Common (Gatekeeper) and Shanice Williams (Dorothy).

The special will be directed by Kenny Leon and adapted for television by Harvey Fierstein from the original musical’s book by William F. Brown. Fatima Robinson is the program’s choreographer, with Harvey Mason Jr and Stephen Oremus serving as the musical directors. Along with original songs, the production will feature new songs composed specifically for the live NBC version. While the live edition showcases many stars that audiences are familiar with, the lead role of Dorothy will mark Shanice William’s professional debut.
