The Kansas City Royals defeated the New York Mets 7-2 Sunday night in 12 innings at Citi Field by rallying in the ninth inning to win their first World Series in 30 years.

New York held Kansas City eight scoreless innings until a walk and a stolen base re-energized the visitors to win the coveted title in five games.  KC fans will celebrate with a 2.3 mile parade on Tuesday.

Outfielder Lorenzo Cain spoke with the Kansas City Star after the win about battling from behind all night.

“Never give up. Never give up. Came through again. We’re the comeback kids, if you want to call us.”

Mets fans will have to wait another year. The last time New York won was in 1986 against the Boston Red Sox.
