The 58th Annual Grammy Awards was hosted last night by LL Cool J at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, with the night being kicked off with a stunning performance of “Out of the Woods” by Taylor Swift.
Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and the Weeknd all came to the Grammy’s with a high chance of winning, with Lamar earning 11 nominations and Swift and the Weeknd each up for 7. Swift went home with winning album of the year, beating out Kendrick Lamar that left his fans fuming. Lamar didn’t go home empty handed, however, winning five awards including best rap album.
Ed Sheeran won song of the year (“Thinking Out Loud”), Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars won record of the year (“Uptown Funk”) and Meghan Trainor won best new artist. Justin Bieber won his first Grammy this year for “Where Are Ü Now” with Skrillex and Diplo. Other notable winners included Chris Stapleton for Best Country Album and the Weeknd for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
Lady Gaga paid tribute to the late David Bowie in her musical performance, which was both mesmerizing and inspirational. The late Eagles founder Glenn Frey was also given a tribute performance by other members of the band.
Adele also performed Monday night, but due to technical issues, her performance fell flat. Adele and the Recording Academy’s president Neil Portnow both took to Twitter to explain the glitch during the show.
Kendrick Lamar delivered the best performance of the night with a fiery rendition of his songs “The Blacker the Berry” and “Alright”.
Other performances during the Grammy’s included Sam Hunt with Carrie Underwood, Justine Bieber and Jack Ü, Ellie Goulding and the cast of Hamilton.
