Singer, songwriter and actress Selean Gomez was scared, as anyone would be when dealing with medical issues. Sources close to the star told TMZ that Gomez’s faith in God is what gave her the strength to handle her failing kidneys and Lupus. Sources continued on saying that God has become the most important thing in Selena’s life, and as scared as she was, she was resigned to the fact that her fate was in God’s hands. She prayed a lot during this time as she was on the kidney transplant list. Selena ultimately received the life-saving organ from her best friend Fracia Raisa, who has appeared on “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and “The Cutting Edge.”
“She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me,” Selena wrote in an Instagram post. “I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”
Raisa responded publicly to Selena’s confession to fans by saying: “I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process. This was part of our story, and we will share it soon, but what is important now is that this is not the only story,” She then linked to more information regarding Lupus.
Raisa, 29, has been friends with Gomez since 2008 after having met at a charity event between ABC and Disney at Children’s Hospital. The two share in their faith, and last year in an Instagram post Raisa wrote: “I am so grateful that God put you in my life when he did.”
As far as Gomez’s fans go, they have all the support and love in the world for the singer as her journey with the illness continues. Many fans joined together to offer prayer to the star, and donated to Lupus organizations.
Selena has long appreciated the support from her fans during difficult times, but her reliance on faith has really grown during this past year. Gomez entered into rehab in August of 2016 after suffering from anxiety, depression and panic attacks as a result of her Lupus diagnosis. She signed up for a Christian-based program that helped her build a stronger relationship in God.
