When you get married, you hope that your partner will support your relationship with God and help it get better. Fortunately, this is the case for Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. According to Shelton, his faith keeps growing stronger, and he has his wife Gwen Stefani to thank.
During an on-stage interview at Country Radio Seminar in Nashville in February, the country musician shared how his relationship with Stefani has improved his connection with God. He told host Lon Helton that just the chance to be with Stefani is proof to him that God is real. Stefani and Shelton got engaged in 2020 but have been associated since 2015 when they met as co-judges on The Voice. On July 3, 2021, they got married at Shelton’s ranch in rural Tishomingo, Oklahoma.
On Stefani’s relationship with God, Shelton said, She has such a strong faith in God. I mean, if Gwen was sitting here right now, she would say God (is first), and then everything else. That’s number one in her life and has been her whole life. She doesn’t beat you over the head with it. She would never do that. That’s her relationship.
Shelton went on to say, “But I’ve learned a lot from Gwen about a lot of things, really just watching her and learning from her and learning how she thinks and how she treats people, and how she just operates in her life.” The “God’s Country” singer told Helton that proof of his growing faith could be seen in his recent music, saying, “I start seeing the God in everything because she does. And of course, that starts bleeding into my records and my music, and next thing you know, I’m dreaming songs, recording songs, and writing songs about faith and God. I do like having it on my records.”
In addition to sharing how wife Gwen Stefani’s strong faith has bolstered his relationship with God, Shelton also opened up about becoming a stepfather to her three sons from a previous marriage. He said that he’s fortunate to have had a model stepfather in his own life: his dad, who served as a stepdad to his older brother, Richie. Shelton told Good Morning America, “My dad, when he married my mom—my mom had a baby, my brother, Richie. And he took Richie on and raised him from the time he was one-year-old, and my brother never thought of my dad as anything other than his dad.”
He said his parents ultimately divorced, and his dad remarried a woman who already had kids. He acted as a stepfather to those children as well. Shelton said that he didn’t know what he was signing up for, but he did sign up for it, and he’s fallen in love with the boys as much as he does with Gwen. It’s a blessing to have a partner that makes you want to strengthen your relationship with God. Hopefully, Shelton and Stefani will keep God at the helm of their marriage so it can continue to prosper.
