Life comes with a lot of surprises. For a street performer, one thing he didn’t expect was a performance with Jennifer Hudson. Jennifer Hudson is an accomplished woman whose talents are limitless. She’s a member of the EGOT club, having won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards.
However, one day while walking along the beach, Hudson decided to give one street performer the biggest surprise of his life. Cameron Rowland was performing in the streets of Los Angeles with his guitar when the music legend joined him for his final song, “Hallelujah.” He took to TikTok to share the news, excitedly telling the camera, “I cannot believe this. Jennifer freaking Hudson came up to me while I was singing on the street, and she sang with me, a dream come true.”
In an Instagram post, Hudson wrote that she was near the beach when she heard “some beautiful music,” causing her to “stop and listen.” While listening to the street performer play music for people walking by, Hudson said the performer said something that caused her to act.
The post reads, “When the artist announced his last song would be Hallelujah, I couldn’t help but join him! Y’all know that’s my favorite song!” The video on her post shows the musician playing his guitar as Hudson sings the lyrics to the beloved song. He gives some background vocals, but Hudson stole the show. Hudson’s voice sounded beautiful despite the surprise performance and outside elements.

The clip ends with the street performer and Hudson giving each other a high-five. Then, they embrace each other as those on the beach, watching the performance, clap and shout in approval. Hudson also gave the young man a shoutout on her Instagram post. She wrote, “I am so inspired by people doing what they love. He is such a talent.” Then, Hudson shares his Instagram handle, encouraging her followers to follow him.
As if Rowland’s day couldn’t get more surreal, Reese Witherspoon and Carole King chimed in on Hudson’s post, with Witherspoon commenting, “Amazing!” and King leaving clapping hands emojis. This isn’t the first time Hudson did a surprise duet with a street performer. While much less spontaneous, the singer teamed up with American Family Insurance to surprise Atlanta’s Alex Guthrie in a touching 2017 video singing Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day.”
Music is undoubtedly a force that brings everyone from all walks of life together. When Cameron Rowland started his day, he didn’t know that he would meet Jennifer Hudson and sing a duet with her. On the other hand, Jennifer Hudson probably didn’t plan on singing; she only wanted to enjoy her stroll on the beach. However, the power of music brought these two forces together for a beautiful duet. Hopefully, this duet will bring more attention to Cameron’s incredible talent and give him a bigger platform.
