Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson recently shared how he keeps a consistently strong relationship with God, emphasizing that prayer is the focus of his connection to God. The star QB also urged kids to always walk in faith and rely on God.
Jackson discussed prayer when he responded during a press conference to a question regarding what it was like when people challenged his ability to perform as a quarterback a few years ago. Now, Jackson is one of the highest-paid NFL players, proving his talent. He said of navigating uncertainty at the time, “It’s not about what people say; it’s about believing in yourself at the end of the day, keeping God first. I kept Him first at all times, no matter what I went through. I just kept my faith in Him, and now we’re here.”
According to Christian Headlines, Jackson’s comments come after he signed a five-year extension with the Ravens. He also appeared on “The Wunderkind Show,” encouraging young people struggling to get on a team, with grades, or in life to put God first.
He said, “You gotta keep God first and pray to God. You gotta be consistent with God. It’s not like making a wish, like seeing a shooting star and just making a wish. It’s not just one time.” At the end of the interview, Jackson emphasized that it’s all about following God’s purpose for your life. CBN’s Faithwire reported that this isn’t the first time Jackson has “taken his fans to church.”
When asked during a 2019 press conference what keeps him humble, he launched into an answer that sparked quite a positive reaction. Jackson said, “The Lord, I give Him all his praise, the glory and the honor. I could’ve been doing anything, you know. It’s crazy. I’m talking to him throughout the day, ‘I appreciate you,’ ‘I thank you.’ Because when you feel you’re bigger than the Lord, that’s when all that success dies. It goes away.”
Before signing his contract, Lamar Jackson was getting advice from almost everyone who follows football about getting a favorable deal. Some advised him to lower his aspirations, while some reprimanded him for not hiring an agent and trusting his mom with deal negotiation duties.
However, shutting down all such voices, Lamar secured the most significant contract in league history on a yearly salary basis. Not only this but with his mom as his agent, Jackson ended up saving tons of cash. An uncertain atmosphere was brewing around Jackson’s NFL future before he surprised everyone by signing a whopping $260 million 5-year deal with the Ravens. Moreover, he saved almost $8 million by letting his mom negotiate his contract after firing his agent.
In his five seasons with the Ravens, Jackson has made the Pro Bowl twice, been named a first-team All-Pro once and led the team to four playoff appearances. Since drafting him, Baltimore is 45-16 in regular-season games Jackson has started and 8-13 in its other 21 regular-season games.
Lamar Jackson has made it clear that he wouldn’t be where he is today without God. Hopefully, his NFL success will continue, and he can show everyone what’s possible when you keep God first.
