In a recent interview, actor Mark Wahlberg shared how prayer is essential to his daily routine. He follows a strict diet and workout plan to stay in shape for his action movie roles, from doing cold plunges to intermittent fasting. Still, prayer is one of the most valuable parts of his daily life.
When asked by GQ if meditation played a part in his schedule, he said, “I pray. I’m always kind of in my head, so I’m a deep thinker, but meditation, no, not really.” Wahlberg may appear fearless when conquering new projects or roles, but he shared that one thing intimidates him.
He explained, “I fear the Lord. I know that I’m going to be judged on what I do and where my heart is. If there is inequity in my heart, then I can’t be rewarded for what I do. There’s no fooling God, so I have to go do that work.” He continued, “The way that I conduct and carry myself, whether publicly or behind closed doors, those are the things that I know I need to worry about, and so that’s what keeps me focused.”
Wahlberg often discusses his strong Christian faith and how prayer is integral to each day. He revealed that he says a prayer of gratitude each morning because he knows faith is the most crucial thing in life. In an interview with Caron Butler for the “Tuff Juice” podcast, the actor said, “Faith is the most important thing. That’s how I start my day every day. By the time I open my eyes, before I turn the light on or do anything, I am kind of saying my prayers. I go in my prayer room and take that 15 or 20 minutes to express how grateful I am.”
Over a year ago, Wahlberg made headlines for his extremely regimented schedule, which showed his commitment to prayer. He has starred in major Hollywood movies like “Transformers” and “Lone Survivor,” but posits that God provided him a platform for a reason.
He said, “I know that God didn’t bless me with all this to say, ‘forget about where you came from and just go off and do you and have a great life. There is now an opportunity and responsibility to give back and inspire others to say no matter where you come from or what obstacles you may face if you actually go and do the right thing, good things will happen for you.”
