A Bible gifted to Elvis Presley, which features his signature, is currently for sale through the memorabilia company Moments in Time for $95K. A fan gave Presley the Bible and has his name etched onto the cover. More importantly, and perhaps more valuable, is Presley’s signature on the inside cover, making it a collectible.
The artifact also contains a picture of Presley and his mother, Gladys. On its face, the Bible appears to have been dedicated to her by her son, but it’s been owned by other relatives.
Presley’s aunt, Delta, was the one who held onto the Bible after Presley’s death, and she gave it to a frequent Graceland guest. Moments in Time now has its hands on the collectible, which is looking for a new buyer with money to spend.
If nothing else, it’s an excellent piece of Presley’s legacy and something any super fan would love to have. Interested parties should contact Moments in Time. Considering Presley died in 1977, having a piece of memorabilia with his signature would be very cool, especially considering the legendary gospel music Presley released during his career; a Bible is extra special.
While his fans worshipped him as a rock’n’roll deity, Elvis Presley would say a prayer before going on stage, reading the Bible and looking to God for guidance in everything he did, his stepbrother has recalled.
“When we saw him bow his head, then we knew,” Billy Stanley, who also worked for the singer, told the Observer, noting that Presley did not recite the prayer aloud. “It was probably about 15 seconds long. I asked him once, ‘Why do you say the prayer before?’ He said: ‘It kind of settles my nerves, but also, I want God to help bless this concert, so make it a good one.’ He always turned to God whenever he needed help.”
Although Presley’s love of gospel music is well known, Stanley believes that the depth of his Christian faith is not realized. “He relied on God for everything,” he said. “It’s where he got his strength. Elvis was so appreciative of what the Lord had given him. He thanked God every day and constantly sought God’s guidance through prayer and reading the Bible.”
Presley struggled with addiction and his playboy image, and Stanley said that whenever he faced self-doubt or anything negative, he would pray. But Presley never went to church with his brothers, telling Stanley: “I’m afraid if I go in, people will pay more attention to me than the preacher.”
