Kendrick Bourne, a wide receiver for the New England Patriots, recently joined the Sports Spectrum podcast to discuss his love for Jesus and why he gave His life to God after hitting rock bottom. He started, “I was a big partier; I’ve been partying all of my career, really and all of my life. One night, I’m in Miami, I’m in my prime, I’m out partying. Drugs, alcohol, women, the whole nine.”
Bourne continued, “I was on a boat one night, and something I drank put me into a spiritual realm, a demonic realm. It was really scary, and I almost didn’t have control of myself. I’ve always believed in God, I’ve always been a Christian, but I’ve never been truly in, truly surrendered as I am now.”
He added, “The night took a toll for the worst. I was under this substance for three days and three nights, which is how I knew it was definitely from God. Through those nights, something in my mind was telling me that ‘God was protecting me. God was just showing me where I was headed. He showed me clearly where I was headed and the decisions I was making. It was all my choices. Once I left Miami and had whatever was in me out of my system, I was done.”
Bourne continued, “I heard the message from God and was like, ‘God, I don’t want to live like this anymore. I don’t want to feel like that anymore.’ It was a scary and horrific experience because I didn’t have control, but God was still in control. He was still guiding me and walking me through it all.”
From then on, Kendrick has lived with one thing on his mind: Jesus. His Instagram bio reads, “JESUS CHRIST IS KING!” In a recent post, Bourne wrote, “Out with the old, in with the new! In Christ, we trust! Year 7.” In another post, Bourne shared a photo of him on the practice field doing sled pulls, writing, “Gotta pull my weight! Didn’t feel like I did that last year! Psalm 59:9 16-17.”
Sports Spectrum reported, “Kendrick Bourne is a wide receiver for the New England Patriots. He went undrafted in 2017 despite having a stellar college career at Eastern Washington, but eventually signed with the San Francisco 49ers, making the final roster as a rookie. Bourne played in 11 games and snagged 16 passes that season. Two years later, he recorded five touchdown receptions and helped San Francisco to the NFC title and a berth in Super Bowl LIV, where they lost to the Chiefs, 31-20. Bourne caught two passes for a team-leading 42 yards in the game.”
Bourne is ready to lead his team to another Super Bowl this season. But more importantly, he’s prepared to lead his team in the name of Jesus Christ.
