Dex Carvey, the eldest son of “Saturday Night Live” star Dana Carvey, has passed away at the age of 32 from an accidental drug overdose. Carvey confirmed the news on his social media accounts writing, “Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy. Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old.” He continued by saying, “Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things–music, art, film making, comedy–and pursued all of them passionately. It’s not an exaggeration to say that Dex loved life. And when you were with him, you loved life too. He made everything fun. But most of all, he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend, Kaylee. Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. We will miss him forever.” Dana and Paula added at the end of the post saying, “To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers.”

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed that Dex passed away at his residence on Wednesday and an autopsy was completed on Thursday. The official cause of death is still pending.
Dex was the eldest of Dana Carvey and Paula Zwagerman two sons. Their youngest, Thomas, is 30. Dana often spoke about his sons during his stand-up comedy performances, both of them following in their father’s footsteps. Dex appeared in films such as “Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser” and “Beyond the Comics.” Dex opened up for his father’s 2016 Netflix comedy special, “Dana Carvey: Straight White Male, 60,” along with Thomas being credited as a warmup comedian in the special. According to his Instagram bio, Dex also co-founded the Third Wheel Comedy Club in Los Angeles.
Rest in Peace.
