Brock Purdy, the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, has become a sensation in the NFL with his rise-to-success story. Despite being the very last pick in the 2022 NFL draft, Purdy has guided his team to two straight NFC title game appearances, with the latest resulting in a come-from-behind victory over the Detroit Lions. The win secured the 49ers a spot in Super Bowl LVIII, where they will face off against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Throughout his journey, Purdy has leaned on his faith in God. After winning the NFC championship game, he reflected on his football journey and attributed his success to God, saying, “I feel like I’ve always sort of had to fight for what I get and work for what I get. But God’s always given me an opportunity, whether that was in high school, college, and then obviously in the NFL.”

Despite being listed at just six feet, one inch, Purdy has overcome the odds to become one of the NFL’s youngest starting quarterbacks in the Super Bowl. He credits his faith in God for giving him the strength to overcome obstacles and to find peace and joy in his journey.

After falling behind 24-7 to the Detroit Lions at halftime of the NFC Championship Game, the 49ers became the first team to overcome a seemingly insurmountable second-half deficit.

During the post-game news conference, Purdy shared, “So when I’m down 17 at half, honestly, I’m just thinking, alright God, You’ve taken me here. And win or lose, I’m gonna glorify You. And that’s my peace. That’s the joy. That’s the steadfastness. That’s where I get it from. And that’s the honest truth. So I lean into that. And sure enough, we were able to come back.”

Purdy also referenced his faith during a post-game interview on the nationally televised broadcast on Fox.

“Glory to God,” Purdy said. “He’s given us this opportunity.”

Purdy’s faith is evident in his social media profiles, where he identifies as a “Believer in Christ” and “Follower of Christ.” He even includes a Bible verse, Colossians 3:23, as his profile picture on Twitter.

In an August 2022 interview with Sports Spectrum, Purdy shared that he wants to “be able to witness and defend the Christian faith as best as I can.” He recounted a moment at Iowa State when he asked God to forgive him for placing football ahead of his relationship with Christ, saying, “It was just a great reminder of where my identity is, where it lies. And it’s in Jesus. And I continue to lean on Him.”

Purdy’s journey serves as an inspiration to many, as he has shown that with hard work, determination, and faith, anything is possible. As he heads into the Super Bowl, he remains steadfast in his belief in God, giving Him the glory for all that he has achieved.
