Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle recently opened up about how God changed his life. He said in a video posted by Christhlete, “My name is Kurt Angle. I’m an Olympic gold medalist and a WWE superstar. The Bible verse I’m going to give you today is from the book of Peter.” Angle read 1 Peter 5:10-11, which says, “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power forever and ever. Amen.

He continued, “I’ve had a lot of injuries in my career. I’ve also had a lot of setbacks, especially with addiction.” Ahead of his gold medal win at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Angle broke his neck during a match. ESPN reported, “Competing in the semifinals of the national trials, Angle came down hard on the mat on his head. The results were two bulged and herniated disks, two cracked vertebrae and four pulled muscles in his neck.” He managed to pull through and dominate at the Olympics. However, novocaine injections for his neck eventually resulted in a full-blown substance addiction.

ESPN wrote, “His neck problems while working for WWE led to a painkiller addiction which spiraled out of control and brought further issues with morphine, Xanax and alcohol. He could not recreate that Olympic high, so he chased another.” Angle emphasized,  “I suffered awhile, but I turned my life to Christ, and He made me strong and steadfast. That enabled me to overcome my addiction, to overcome my injuries and to remain strong in His glory.” He concluded, “So, I give God all the credit for what I’ve been able to overcome. And I wanted to give you that advice.” Following his retirement from pro wrestling, Angle loves to spend time with his kids and make memories together.

In a new post, he shared a photo of him and his daughter at the Olympic trials. “At the @usaswimming Olympic Trials with my daughter Giuliana in Indianapolis! This little girl is on cloud nine right now (being a swimmer herself), seeing all her favorite swimmers compete for the Gold like the record breaker @regansmith4 and the legend @katieledecky.”

He continued, “Tried to remind her a few times during our conversation about her GOAT dad winning a Gold medal with a broken freakin neck, but it’s not phasing her right now since she’s seeing all her role models in action in real life….. yes I’m butt hurt, but I’ll be okay. Either way, it’s been awesome to share this exciting experience with my daughter Gulz.”
