Country music star John Rich, known for his chart-topping hits and bold personality, has a story that goes far beyond the glitz and glamor of the entertainment industry. While his name has been synonymous with success in country music, Rich recently opened up about his spiritual journey, sharing how he fell into the traps of a “wicked” industry before ultimately turning back to his faith in Jesus Christ.

Speaking on CBN News’ “Newsmakers” podcast, Rich credited his father, a devoted preacher, for planting seeds of faith in his heart. His father began his ministry at just 19, courageously preaching the Gospel in prisons and on the streets. For over three decades, he preached in the chaotic streets of New Orleans during Mardi Gras, undeterred by the tumult and debauchery that surrounded him.

Rich, however, was on a very different path. While his father boldly shared the Good News, the young musician was carving out a career in the entertainment world—a journey that would test his faith.

“My decades in the music industry … that became what I worshiped,” Rich admitted. Although he gave his life to Jesus at a young age, the allure of fame and fortune quickly took center stage.

With millions of records sold and a flourishing career, Rich’s priorities were consumed by worldly success. But when he married and started a family, something began to shift.

“I started looking at how I was living and what was important to me,” he said. “And I thought, ‘Is that how I want my boys to live? Do I want them to wind up like I am right now?’ And I was horrified by that notion.”

The realization hit hard. Rich described feeling “convicted” as he came to terms with the noise and chaos of the entertainment industry drowning out God’s voice.

“You can’t even hear Him because your ears are full of your own noise,” he shared. The singer began to separate himself from the music industry, little by little, and to realign his life with God’s truth.

The lies and moral compromises he encountered in the industry became too much to bear. Eventually, Rich walked away from his record and publishing deals, finding unprecedented freedom in the process.

“I felt like [God] went, ‘You can say whatever you want, and I’m going to give you some stuff to say that I want you to say,'” Rich recalled. His response? “Let’s rock and roll. What do you want me to say?”

Since rededicating himself to Christ, Rich has used his platform to speak boldly about his faith and the cultural issues facing the nation. His recent Bible-inspired song, “Revelation,” reflects his renewed commitment to truth and his desire to encourage others to dive deeper into Scripture.

Rich hopes the song will inspire listeners to pick up their Bibles and engage with its messages about today’s challenges and the end times.

Rich’s message to Christians is clear: it’s time to stop being silent.

“You cannot scream and holler about what’s happening around you if you’re just gonna ride the fence, keep your mouth shut, and go along to get along,” he said.

Instead, he challenges believers to take a stand for their faith. “Christians are not commanded to do that. We’re commanded to do quite the opposite of that. We’re supposed to go forward, not retreat.”

Though standing firm in faith isn’t always comfortable, Rich believes it is the only path forward. For him, stepping out of the “wicked” industry and into God’s calling has brought clarity, peace, and a renewed purpose.

“Put up or shut up time” has arrived, and John Rich is answering the call. Will you?
