Christian entertainment enthusiasts, get ready for a biblical drama unlike any other! Prime Video and Wonder Project have just unveiled first-look images and a premiere date for their highly anticipated series, House of David. This gripping portrayal of one of the Bible’s most legendary figures is set to debut on February 27, 2025, with a three-episode premiere followed by weekly episodes.
Created by Jon Erwin (Jesus Revolution), Michael Nankin, and Jon Gunn (Ordinary Angels), the series promises to breathe new life into the Old Testament stories of David and King Saul. With Dallas Jenkins (The Chosen) serving as Wonder Project’s special advisor, House of David is primed to capture hearts and inspire audiences worldwide.
The series follows the rise of the young shepherd David, destined by God to replace King Saul, whose downfall stems from his pride and disobedience. As the creators describe it, House of David “tells the story of the ascent of the biblical figure, David, who eventually becomes the most renowned and celebrated king of Israel. The series follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his pride. At God’s direction, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king.”
Expect to see David’s journey unfold through love, loss, and peril in the court of the very king he is destined to replace, culminating in one of the most iconic battles in history: David versus Goliath.
The show stars Michael Iskander (The Passage) as David, Ali Suliman (Jack Ryan) as King Saul, Ayelet Zurer (Man of Steel) as Queen Ahinoam, Stephen Lang (Avatar) as the prophet Samuel, Indy Lewis (The Peripheral) as Mychal, Saul’s daughter, and Martyn Ford (The Nevers) as the towering giant Goliath.
The first-look images showcase pivotal moments from the biblical narrative, including Samuel anointing David (1 Samuel 16), the unforgettable battle between David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17), and David soothing King Saul’s troubled spirit with his harp. These visuals promise breathtaking cinematography, a hallmark of Wonder Project’s commitment to delivering values-driven, high-quality storytelling.
Wonder Project, co-founded by Erwin and Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, aims to redefine faith-based media. According to Erwin, the House of David is just the beginning. “This is a milestone for The Wonder Project, and we’re thrilled to be working with a company that understands and supports our mission and our audience in such a groundbreaking way,” he said.
With a vision to empower Christian creatives with the resources and freedom to produce meaningful content, Wonder Project is carving out a unique space in the entertainment industry. “What if we could build a studio of our own that empowers creatives in this space with a level of freedom and resources they haven’t had before?” Erwin asked.
The success of shows like The Chosen, which has reached over 200 million viewers since its debut, demonstrates the growing appetite for authentic, Bible-based content. Faith-focused entertainment continues to prove its relevance, from The Chosen to Netflix’s biblical epic Mary and now House of David.
