With President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration less than a week away, his transition team is releasing a glimpse of what Americans can expect for the celebration. One impressive name that will be making an appearance at the inauguration is country star Carrie Underwood, who is scheduled to perform “America the Beautiful” at Trump’s swearing in ceremony. “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future,” Underwood said in a statement. The Village people, whose popular song “Y.M.C.A” has become of staple of Trump rallies, will also perform, along with Trump favorite Lee Greenwood and opera singer Christopher Maccio.

Underwood’s appearance at the inauguration has surprised some, given Trump’s 2017 inauguration struggled to obtain well-known performers. It was reported that names like Elton John, David Foster, Charlotte Church and Rebecca Ferguson, Moby, 2 Chainz, The Beach Boys and Ice-T had all turned down invitations to perform at Trump’s first inauguration. The Village People released a statement, anticipating push back and insisting their appearance was to promote unity. “We know this won’t make some of you happy to hear however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics. Our song Y.M.C.A. is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost. Therefore, we believe it’s now time to bring the country together with music which is why VILLAGE PEOPLE will be performing at various events as part of the 2025 Inauguration of Donald J. Trump,” the group announced on their Facebook.

Trump supporters responded positively to Underwood’s scheduled appearance. “I don’t know if Carrie Underwood voted for Donald Trump or not,” wrote one user. “I do know she has graciously accepted an invitation to perform at his inauguration. Nashville is liberal and country music is surprisingly pretty woke. Good for her for putting her country ahead of her career.” Others compared her to Taylor Swift, who publicly supported Kamala Harris during the 2024 election. “They can keep their witch – Taylor Swift!” wrote a user. “We’ll take The Christian Patriot – Carrie Underwood!”
