Ava DuVernay’s adaption of A Wrinkle in Time will be launched in March 2018. But for now, fans can watch the official trailer for Disney’s live-action adaptation and will see it’s worth the wait. The film, which is an epic adventure based on Madeleine L’Engle’s timeless classic takes viewers across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and ultimately, the triumph of love.
Movie-goers will also be invigorated as they are transported across the cosmos.
“What if we are here for a reason? What if we are a part of something truly divine?” the narrator said in the trailer. While these words pierce our souls, DuVernay speaks to our hearts through the heterogeneity of characters brought to life.
“My whole process with this film was, what if? With these women, I wondered, could we make them women of different ages, body types, races? Could we bring in culture, bring in history in their costumes? And in the women themselves, could we just reflect a fuller breadth of femininity?,” DuVernay said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
The breadth of femininity is also appreciated but was one of the unwritten rules of science fiction a the time it was published in 1963. “I’m a female. Why would I give all the best ideas to a male?,” L’Engle said in 1998.
“A Wrinkle in Time” is produced by Jim Whitaker and Catherine Hand with Doug Merrifield serving as executive producer. The film stars: Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peňa, Levi Miller, Deric McCabe, André Holland, Rowan Blanchard with Zach Galifianakis and Chris Pine and introduces Storm Reid.
