Grammy-award winning Christian artist Dane Bowe is being criticized by fans for having an “overly sexualized” music video for his new song, “Wind Me Up.” Fans are saying the video “crosses the line” with women dancing inappropriately, including twerking. The music video for the song “Wind Me Up” was released earlier this month, leaving fans to criticize the video immediately after it was posted. Many accounts say that they enjoy Bowe’s music, but think that the music video went too far. The song is a part of Bowe’s self-titled album which was released by Capitol Christian Music Group. In a news release from Capitol Christian Music Group, they said the song and video “captures the summer vibes everyone has been waiting for.” Bowe spoke about his new album saying, “This project represents my creative evolution and a bold step towards pushing boundaries. Through soulful melodies, infectious beats, and deeply-rooted lyrics, I’ve crafted a sonic journey that bridges the gap between different musical worlds.

The music video began with Bowe on a boat with a group of women before it transitions into a nighttime party-like scene. The women are seen dancing around a campfire, some of them seen twerking. Although the dancing may be seen as tame, the style of dance isn’t often depicted in music videos by Christian artists. Bowe posted a clip of the video to his Instagram account, where many of the top comments are criticizing his choices. “This is overly sexualized and sensual for someone who screams that everything they do is in Jesus name,” one person wrote. “If you don’t find an issue with this you’re either Lukewarm or don’t have discernment. The dancer could have easily not had their breast on full display and not twerking in the camera let’s be so real right now. God bless him and I pray he has a true transformation in Christ.” Another user commented saying, “The track is fire but the visuals are distracting. I had to do a double go back and remind myself that I saw you leading Praise and Worship at church. I wish our sisters were so not exposed, and grinding.” One other person wrote, “Come back to Jesus my friend. You have such a powerful calling.”
