Former NFL cornerback turned University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders recently took a stand for his faith in an Instagram post. He captioned the photos, “JESUS!” The first photo declared, “Sex won’t satisfy you. Fame won’t satisfy you. Drugs won’t satisfy you. Money won’t satisfy you. Alcohol won’t satisfy you. Success won’t satisfy you. Life is empty without Jesus. He is the only one who can satisfy your heart. Amen.”
The second photo said, “Pray until you see a breakthrough. Pray until the chains fall off. Pray until you hear God’s voice.” Sanders, nicknamed “Prime Time” during his NFL career, usually discusses his faith on social media. In another post to his 3.4 million Instagram followers, “Lord, I thank u for yesterday because if it weren’t for yesterday, I wouldn’t be prepared for today. I’m appreciative for the ups, downs, comings, goings, the light, the darkness, the good and the bad. I thank u for it all!” The caption read, “Lord, I thank u for every day that ends with a “Y” #CoachPrime!”

Sanders joined the University of Colorado as head coach in December 2022. After the announcement, he said in a press conference, “Don’t you ever tell me where God ain’t. Don’t you ever tell me His limits. Don’t you ever tell me what you’re up against and what you can’t do.” He continued, “Out of all of the persons in the world, God chose me. For that, I thank Him. For that, I love Him. For that, I magnify Him. For that, I glorify Him. For that, I praise Him. For that, I owe Him. Each and every day, I’m trying to please Him.”
Colorado athletic director Rick George stated in a press release, “There were a number of highly qualified and impressive candidates interested in becoming the next head football coach at Colorado, but none of them had the pedigree, the knowledge and the ability to connect with student-athletes like Deion Sanders.”He concluded, “Not only will Coach Prime energize our fanbase, I’m confident that he will lead our program back to national prominence while leading a team of high quality and high character.”
Sanders was drafted as a first-rounder in 1989 by the Atlanta Falcons out of Florida State and played in the league for 14 seasons with several franchises. He won two Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
Sanders also played for five different Major League Baseball teams in 11 years. He is the first athlete to have competed in a Super Bowl and a World Series. Sanders revealed that in 2021, he had blood clots that threatened his life. However, after eight surgeries and the amputation of two toes on his left foot, Sanders recovered.
