As the 2024 Masters are underway in August, Georgia, Scottie Scheffler is the favored winner of the tournament. The New Jersey native, who previously won the 2022 Masters, has all eyes on him, but he has remained humble through it all. During his press conference ahead of this year’s Masters, Scheffler was asked the simple yet profound question of what defines him as a person. Where he used the opportunity to share his belief in Jesus. “I’m a faithful guy. I believe in a Creator. I believe in Jesus. Ultimately, I think that’s what defines me the most,” said Scheffler. “I feel like I’ve been given a platform to compete and, you know, show my talent. It’s not anything that I did. I think I sat up here a couple years ago doing the interview after the 2022 Masters, and it’s like, yeah, I was underprepared for what was about to happen. I didn’t know what was going to happen. I didn’t — I was very anxious that morning. I didn’t know what to expect.” He continued, “And it’s hard to describe the feeling, but I think that’s what defines me the most is my faith. I believe in one Creator, that I’ve been called to come out here, do my best, compete and glorify God, and that’s pretty much it.”
It’s not often you hear professional golfers, for whatever reason, speak about faith.

This isn’t the first time that Scheffler has spoken about his Christian faith. After he won the 2022 Masters, Scheffler explained that golf isn’t his identity. “The reason why I play golf is, I am trying to glorify God and all that he’s done in my life, and so for me, my identity isn’t a golf score,” he told the media in 2022. Scheffler’s caddie, Ted Scott, is also a man of faith. He often shares a “Sunday Sermon” from various tournaments to his Instagram account.
