Christian tennis star Coco Gauff is headed to Paris for the 2024 Olympics. The U.S. Tennis Association recently released its roster for the Paris Olympics, where Gauff tops the list. According to the U.S. Tennis Association, “The women’s team is made up of singles world No. 2 Gauff, No. 5 Jessica Pegula, No. 11 Danielle Collins, No. 17 Emma Navarro, and doubles No. 11 Desirae Krawczyk, and will be coached by Kathy Rinaldi, the USTA’s head of women’s tennis. Gauff, Pegula, Collins and Navarro will play singles, while Gauff and Pegula, and Collins and Krawczyk, will play doubles.” This will be her first Olympics after she had to miss the delayed 2021 Tokyo Olympics due to testing positive for COVID-19 days before the start of the games. The American team features six first-time Olympians, the U.S. Tennis Association said.
The 20-year-old has been open about her Christian faith throughout her career. She revealed in an interview that she often prays before her matches. “I don’t pray for results. I just ask that I get the strength to give it my all. Whatever happens, happens. I’m so blessed in this life,” she said. “That French Open loss was a heartbreak. I realized God puts you through trials. This makes this moment even sweeter than I could imagine,” Gauff continued. Last year, the tennis star thanked God after a win and credited her church family for supporting her. “First, I’d like to thank my Father, God for this,” Gauff said. “After losing in first-round Wimbledon, it was a tough situation. You know, a lot of prayer and a lot of support from my church family. So thank you to Him and those who support me.”
The 2024 Paris Olympics will go on from July 26th to August 11th. Tennis matches will begin on July 27th at Roland Garros, the site of the French Open.
