In the not so distant past, we had to wait for the paperboy to gauge reaction to the traditional State of the Union Address. Television changed that and the internet has now revolutionized it. On Twitter we truly see the clash of popular culture and politics and we see it in real time. Even after President Obama finished his delivery, nearly every trending word on Twitter had to do with his speech. Here are just a handful of reactions, from the ridiculous to the sublime:
“Our prayers for our president will take him further than our criticism ever will. kill the negativity! #sotu”
“Our President rocked the #StateoftheUnion. Promised #California high speed rail routes underway for efficient travel & avoid a pat-down ;)”
“Good line in Obama #sotu: America will respond to terrorism with conviction that American Muslims are part of our American family.”
“God could be Our President, and people would still be hating…tough job #stateoftheunion”
“How many of those Barack Obama-autographed programs will be on eBay tonight? #sotu #stateoftheunion”
“#StateoftheUnion summary: We need Jobs, Steve Jobs. #sotu #AppleWillSaveUs”
“‘Headlines’ of #sotu always fade. What may last from this one: inclusion of Muslims in American family + LGBT in American military”
