In a powerful and timely statement, Taylor Swift formally endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race following Harris’ debate against former President Donald Trump. Swift took to Instagram to share her thoughts, emphasizing the need for steady leadership in the face of what she described as political chaos. Her message resonated deeply with her massive following, many of whom had been eagerly awaiting her stance on the upcoming election. Swift began her post by reflecting on the debate, urging her fans to thoroughly research the candidates and their policies before casting their votes. “Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight,” she wrote. “If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.”

The endorsement marked a critical moment in Swift’s political involvement, which has grown more pronounced in recent years. In this post, she made it clear where her support lies, calling Harris a “steady-handed, gifted leader” and expressing her belief that the country could accomplish far more with Harris at the helm. Swift added, “I think we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

Swift also addressed a troubling issue that had recently surfaced: a false AI-generated endorsement of Donald Trump. The image, shared on Trump’s website, purported to show Swift backing his candidacy. Swift clarified that the incident had stoked her fears about the dangers of AI and misinformation, particularly in the realm of politics.

“Recently, I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” Swift said. “It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

This instance of AI-generated disinformation struck a chord with Swift, who has been vocal about her concerns regarding the use of artificial intelligence in the entertainment industry. The incident provided the final push she needed to make her endorsement clear.

Swift cut straight to the point and stated her full support for Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”

Swift concluded her message with a heartfelt appeal to first-time voters, reminding them of the importance of registering to vote and suggesting early voting as an option. “I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice,” she wrote. “Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first-time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early.”

Swift provided her followers with links to voter registration information and early voting details, encouraging them to be proactive as election day approaches. She signed off with a tongue-in-cheek nod to Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance, who had previously made a dismissive comment about Democratic voters, referring to them as “childless cat ladies.”

“With love and hope,” Swift concluded her message, “Taylor Swift… Childless Cat Lady.”
