The good news out of Haiti this week is the miracle rescue of Darlene Etienne, 16, who survived for 15 days trapped in her school after the earthquake caused it to crumble around her.

One of the most touching parts of this story is the enduring faith of her mom, a poor woman who refused to give up hope.

“I never thought she was dead,” Kerline Dorcant, 39, reportedly told The Associated Press. “I always thought she was alive.”

Darlene’s mom told media that the reason her daughter is alive is because God listened to a mother’s non-stop prayers. Darlene is receiving medical treatments and recovering.
