abraham-lincoln.jpgThe 16th president of America will always be known for altering our nation’s history forever when he signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 to abolish slavery.   As the Civil War ended, Lincoln helped pass the 13th Amendment which legally ended slavery in the United States.

Affectionately known as Honest Abe, Lincoln was known for being tought but fair.  He was also a prolific writer and an eloquent orator.

Five days after the American Civil War came to an end, Lincoln was assassinated today on April 14, 1865
