High school teens in St. Charles, Missouri put together their annual special needs prom. The special needs prom first began 14 years ago when a sponsor of the high school Renaissance Club had a child with Down syndrome.

The prom is still put together by the Renaissance Club, dedicated to doing good things, and invitations are mailed each year to all the special needs students in the county.  No matter how different the background all the teens–those with and without special needs–come together for one night to have fun celebrating a high school rite of passage.

One teacher and current Renaissance Club sponsor revealed why the special needs prom is so important: “Everybody has a place and everybody belongs together and everybody takes care of one another.” (KSDK.com)
