A German shepherd mix was recently rescued from a 6-foot deep oil pit by a disabled homeless man in Memphis, Tennessee. J. Dudley Beavers, who has an artificial leg, had been seeking shelter at an old car wash when he heard the sounds of a dog whimpering and truck tires driving away.
When he discovered the abandoned dog, he used to rope to pull her out. Beavers then called a friend, Sheila Zachar, who drove the dog, covered in oil, to the Humane Society. Even though her body temperature was low and she had ingested oil, the dog pulled through and will be up for adoption soon. The Human Society named her “Ellie May.”
