I’m sitting here at my desk listening to a few songs and the old Rascal Flatts’ tune “Bless the Broken Road” turned up on my playlist. You’ve probably heard it before, as it’s a very popular country song. It’s all about a man looking back over the heartaches and mistakes he’s made and how they all led to finding his true love.

Every long lost dream
Led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart
They were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way
Into your loving arms
This much I know is true
God bless the broken road
That led me straight to you

It’s a favorite at weddings for obvious reasons, but I think it conjures up feelings about life in general. It’s amazing to look back over things that you’ve been through and see where they’ve taken you. Think about it. That college major you were unsure about led to a great career. The failures taught you lessons that led you to success. Every one of us has taken a wrong turn that pointed us in the right direction.

I know it sounds crazy, but be inspired today by your trials. With grace, embrace your mistakes. Be encouraged that nothing you go through is wasted and everything is being used to get you where you need to go.
