Jamie Foxx says he has “big” things ahead three months after suffering from a medical complication. The 55-year-old Oscar winner recently posted a photo on Instagram, captioned, “Thankful for my @betmgm family and a great few nights in Vegas. We got BIG things coming soon.”
Foxx was in Nevada working on a campaign with BetMGM, a sports betting company linked with MGM Resorts. Foxx will star in the company’s commercials for football season and beyond. This update comes after Foxx broke his silence with a May 3 Instagram post telling fans, “Appreciate all the love!!! Feeling blessed.”
Before that, his daughter Corinne Foxx announced that her father “experienced a medical complication” on April 11 while in Atlanta filming the Netflix movie “Back in Action,” which also stars Cameron Diaz. At the time, she shared that “due to quick action and great care,” Foxx was recovering at that point. Then, on May 12, Corrine shared another update on Foxx’s condition, denying reports that the family was preparing for the worst. On Instagram, she shared that the actor had been “out of the hospital for weeks.”
She wrote, “Update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild. My dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday.” Foxx was recently spotted playing pickleball again, appearing in good spirits as he and a friend faced off in a doubles match against two opponents.

He was also recently seen at Topgolf in the Naperville suburb of Chicago and, the following day, cruising a boat on the Chicago River. He even exited an SUV to return a woman’s lost purse in Chicago. A source close to Foxx and his camp told People Magazine that he’s “doing great.” After Foxx’s appearance on the Chicago River, the source said, “He is just taking it easy. He’s not really having any visitors or anything like that yet, but he’s doing really, really well.”
Another source told the outlet that the actor “has been working really hard these last couple of months to get back to normal and has greatly improved since he first got to the facility.” The source also shared that Foxx recently had a party “to celebrate being better” at the Chicago rehabilitation facility he’s been going to. They added, “He is still doing some outpatient rehab, though.”
In an Instagram video, Foxx didn’t explain what exactly happened but discussed the severity of his condition while he was in the hospital. He said,“But I did go to hell and back,” he added. “My road to recovery had some potholes as well but I’m coming back, and I’m able to work.” He also explained why it took so long for fans to hear from him, saying, “I just didn’t want you to see me like that. I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, a television show. I just didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.”
The actor recently made his first public appearance since his medical scare and reflected on the incident. Speaking at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema & Television: Honoring Black, Latino, and AAPI Achievements, the 55-year-old actor opened up about his health scare during an emotional award acceptance speech.
Fox said as he accepted the Vanguard Award for his performance in “The Burial,” “I want to thank everybody. I’ve been through something. I’ve been through some things. It’s crazy; I couldn’t do that six months ago. I couldn’t actually walk,” he added as he welled up with emotion. Showing his appreciation for life, Foxx said, “It feels good to be here. I cherish every single minute now. It’s different. It’s different.”
He continued, “I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it’s tough when you almost… When it’s almost over when, you see the tunnel. He then joked, “I saw the tunnel. I didn’t see the light! It was hot in that tunnel, so I didn’t know where I was going. S—, am I going to the right place? I saw the devil goin ‘C’mon, now.'” In another lighter moment, Foxx assured the audience that he was also not a clone, despite previous rumors.
After thanking the team behind “The Burial,” Foxx ended his speech with, “I want to say six months ago, I couldn’t fathom that this could happen or that I would be here, but as I walk up here to this microphone and get this Vanguard Award, all I can say is ‘Lord, have mercy, Jesus.'”
Jamie Foxx’s recovery is proof that prayer works! To go from suffering from a medical complication in April to being out and back to work three months later proves that God heard the prayers of the masses. It also proves that Foxx has been dedicated to his recovery process, not letting anything get in his way.
