Actor Mark Wahlberg recently took some time out of his busy schedule to speak with the Bergen Catholic football team in New Jersey. Wahlberg shared his knowledge and spoke about the importance of hard work and the value of supporting each other. “You guys are so blessed and so fortunate,” he told the team. “I know it’s tough out there. There’s a lot of temptation right out those doors, but you’re inside these doors with these guys.” He added saying, “Build each up, help each other out and work hard. You have all the opportunity in the world. You got to decide what you’re going to do with it and what you’re gonna make of it.” He took to his Instagram page to share a clip from his speech, even sharing clips when he initially walked in, surprising the players.

Vito Campanile, a coach for Bergen Catholic, spoke about how special it was for Wahlberg to speak to his team saying, “It was an awesome message.” He added saying, I think it’s great that our guys got to hear a message from someone in another genre of life, someone who is successful and hear him talking about his focus on being elite at what he does.” When asked if the players immediately recognized Wahlberg, Campanile responded saying, “Oh yeah, they were wowed by him. Some of them might have just known him from [the movie] DADDY’S HOME instead of [Wahlberg’s band] the Funky Bunch.”
Wahlberg is a devout Catholic and has always spoken about his faith. “That’s an even bigger sin. You know, it’s not popular in my industry, but, you know, I cannot deny my faith. It’s important for me to share that with people,” said Wahlberg when asked about his faith on the Today Show.
