A terrifying plane crash at Toronto Pearson International Airport is being hailed as a “miracle” after a Delta Airlines aircraft flipped upside down during landing—yet, astonishingly, no lives were lost.

The incident occurred Monday afternoon when a CRJ900 jet arriving from Minneapolis encountered trouble while touching down. Despite the dramatic scene, all 80 passengers and crew members survived, with only eight reported injuries.

Aviation experts credit several factors for the outcome but emphasize divine providence in the remarkable survival story.

Greg Feith, a former senior air safety investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board, explained that the plane may have bounced upon landing, causing the pilots to lose control. However, he noted that the way the aircraft broke apart likely saved lives.

“The good thing is … both the wings were shed,” Feith told News Nation. “That usually takes up a lot of the major impact forces. And because the tube—the fuselage tube—stayed intact, that’s what enhanced the survivability for all these people, even though there was a small fire that did break out.”

Two retired commercial pilots, Richard Levy and Michael Coffield, agreed that the outcome was miraculous.

“People don’t walk away from upside-down plane crashes. This is incredible,” said Coffield. “I believe there was some divine intervention here.”

Following the crash, emergency teams swiftly transported 21 individuals to area hospitals. By Tuesday morning, Delta Airlines reported that 19 of them had already been released.

“Our most pressing priority remains taking care of all customers and Endeavor crew members who were involved,” said Delta Airlines CEO Ed Bastian in a statement.
