Stacy Wakefield, the wife of Boston Red Sox great Tim Wakefield, who passed away at 57, shared a message she found from her husband. Wakefield, who was suffering from brain cancer, had words of wisdom in a note that his wife shared with Boston Bruins legend Bobby Orr. He posted the message on his X account.

The message reads, “Never forget where you came from. Be a mentor to others. You didn’t get to where you are today by yourself, and no matter what status you accomplish in life, you should assume the responsibility to help those who are less fortunate than you. I’ve been involved with different charities my whole career, and I can tell you that I’ve received much more than I’ve given.”

The message concludes, “I’ve also learned that it doesn’t matter how much money you’ve made, how big your house is or what kind of car you drive. What matters most is: did you make a difference in someone else’s life?” Wakefield, known for his incredible knuckleball through his 19-year MLB career, spent 17 of those seasons in a Red Sox uniform, where he was a fan favorite. A two-time World Series champion, Wakefield owned a 4.43 ERA over 3,006 innings in 590 appearances for the Red Sox from 1995-2011. He made his major league debut as a Pittsburgh Pirate in 1992, where he spent his first two seasons.

Wakefield accumulated 2,156 strikeouts over his 627 total outings on the mound. He also had 200 regular-season wins. The Red Sox said after his passing, “Our hearts are broken with the loss of Tim Wakefield. He embodied true goodness: a devoted husband, father and teammate, beloved broadcaster, and the ultimate community leader. He gave so much to the game and all of Red Sox Nation.”

Tim Wakefield is survived by his wife, Stacy, and their children, Trevor and Brianna. The couple met in 2000 and began dating the following year. They eventually got married on Nov. 9, 2002. Trevor was born in 2004, while Brianna was born in 2005. Stacy Wakefield, who battled pancreatic cancer, has been actively involved in philanthropic efforts alongside her late husband. She worked closely with Wakefield Warriors, an organization that focuses on aiding children at the Franciscan Hospital for Children. Her commitment to philanthropy reflects the charitable path Wakefield himself followed throughout his career and into retirement.

Since this post was published, Stacy Wakefield tragically passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer.  She was surrounded by her friends, family, nurses, and caretakers at her home in Massachusetts. This sad news comes less than five months after her husband, longtime MLB pitcher Tim Wakefield, died from brain cancer at 57 years old, a loss that rocked the sports world.

The family released a statement on Stacy’s passing, saying, “Our hearts are beyond broken. We will remember Stacy as a strong, loving, thoughtful and kind person who was as down-to-earth as they come. We feel so lucky to have had her in our lives, and we take comfort in the fact that she will be reunited with Tim, the love of her life.” The Wakefields also highlighted those who took care of Stacy: doctors, nurses and caretakers, who were by her side since her diagnosis.

They said, “We are eternally grateful for your unmatched care and support. And to all of you who have sent well wishes over these last several months, we truly appreciate your kindness.” Stacy and Tim are survived by their two children, Trevor and Brianna.
