Time magazine has named Taylor Swift as their 2023 “Person of the Year.” “This is the proudest and happiest I’ve ever felt, and the most creatively fulfilled and free I’ve ever been,” she told the publication. “Ultimately, we can convolute it all we want, or try to overcomplicate it, but there’s only one question: Are you not entertained?” Swift beat out a number of contenders, ranging from Barbie to King Charles III.

The singer has earned similar titles this year, such as People’s 2023 Most Intriguing Person of the Year, and Forbes No. 1 most powerful woman in media and entertainment. The 12-time Grammy Award winner is arguably at her peak this year. She became Spotify’s most-streamed artist globally this year. Her songs brought in more than 26.1 billion streams since the start of 2023, according to Spotify Wrapped. The 33-year-old dominated the headlines this year as she completed the first half of her record-breaking Eras Tour. The tour has been credited with helping revitalize local business and tourism after the global pandemic led to economic and social devastation in the years following.

In November, she broke Grammy record with her song “Anti-Hero” by becoming the first artist to earn seven total nominations for song of the year. Swift swept this year’s MTV Video Music Awards by winning nine awards, tying for the most VMA’s ever collected in one night. The singer-songwriter is often praised for her incredible songwriting skills and business mindset, leading to college courses about her being offered at colleges such as Stanford University, the University of California and Harvard University.
