On the night of a remarkable rescue, Senior Corporal Sergio Perez from the Dallas Police Department was training his K9 partner, Goro. It was also Sergio’s birthday.

Taking a break, Sergio decided to treat Goro with chicken nuggets from McDonald’s. As he pulled into the parking lot, he heard a woman’s desperate screams.

“I drove over to see what was happening, and a woman came around the corner carrying a child on her shoulders,” he recounted.

The 1-year-old boy had stopped breathing, leaving his mother in a state of panic. But God had placed the right person in their path!

Hearing the cries, Senior Corporal Sergio Perez sprang into action. “My training kicked in. I stayed calm and kept talking to the child and reassuring the mother that everything was going to be okay,” he said.

The officer began CPR, and though certified, it was his first real-life application outside of training. His body camera captured the tense moments as he worked to save the child. Finally, he succeeded, sharing the good news with the anxious mother.

“He’s breathing,” he informed her. “He’s breathing, ma’am. His eyes are blinking.”

As the child started having a seizure, Senior Corporal Perez remained by his side, offering comfort and support.

“It’s a cliché, you know? Just being in the right place at the right time. To protect and serve,” he reflected. “I’m just glad I could help her child.”

Paramedics arrived, and Sergio gently carried the boy to the ambulance.

“Being a father myself, I’m thankful I was there,” he said of the intense rescue.

The hospital later confirmed both the boy and his mother were okay. Many praised Senior Corporal Sergio Perez as a hero, but he insists he was simply doing his duty—not just as an officer, but as someone answering God’s call.

“I believe God placed me there that night for a reason, because I usually don’t get Goro nuggets,” he explained. But that night, I felt my partner deserved a treat after our training.

That small decision ended up saving a life. It’s amazing to see how God can use something as ordinary as a McDonald’s trip to fulfill His purpose!
